Dave and his wife Sandy discovered East Tennessee in 1996 while looking for a more central location fo their NASCAR-focused ministry. Founders of Portofino:Rock, a 501(c)3 ministry, Dave and Sandy ministered at Friday & Saturday night family concerts and conducted chapel services for thousands of race fans at tracks across the Eastern United States.
Enchanted by Etowah and then Tellico Plains, they felt the Lord directed them to set up a home base in the mountains for Portofino:Rock. They bought mountain property the day they drove into Tellico Plains. Around the same time, their daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren also moved to Tennessee. Very engaged citizens where they had lived previously, they jumped in to support and build their new community. Sandy joined the Cherokee Women’s Study Club, served on the Tellico Plains library board, and helped start the Cookie Caper at the annual Tellico Plains Candlelight Walk, which raises funds for student scholarships and academic excellence in the local school system.
With family and friends as partners, Dave started a construction company and began selling real estate, which is now Skyway Realty. He was and remains determined to create jobs, start new businesses, establish retail and provide help to those in need. He was instrumental in implementing several improvements for the town of Tellico Plains, including construction of the stage in Town Square, the historic wagon signs along the Cherohala Skyway pointing visitors to town, the Charles Hall Museum, renovations of many buildings in town, as well as the development of The Highlands mountain community, Red Mountain Cove & Red Mountain Farm developments.
Dave was a member of the first planning board in Tellico Plains, later sat on the Monroe County Planning Commission, and was CCO of Worldwide Interactive Network (WIN) in Kingston, TN, traveling through North America assisting state governments establish workplace excellence through WIN’s online software. Dave was also the head of the Physicians Marketing at Orlando Regional Medical Center, assisting the 700 admitting physicians at ORMC recruit new doctors to medical teams, establish practice management services and insurance for their medical practices.
Dave is an Eagle Scout and a graduate of the Ohio State University with a degree in Accounting. He is a 1998 graduate of Monroe Leadership. He currently owns and operates Skyway Realty in Tellico Plains.
